Who can use Skype for Business?

• Any NWU staff member who has access to a headset with a microphone or Laptop or Pc with Speakers and mic can use the software, as long as they’re using a Windows or Mac computer. Skype for Business isn’t available for Linux computers.

How secure is Skype for Business?

• All the information in your Skype for Business account is encrypted, meaning no unauthorised person can access your information. Others can only access your information if they have your network password. Remember that it is against NWU policy to share your network password with anyone.

I've always had my own, personal Skype account which I access via the 'normal' Skype client. Does Skype for Business replace this?

• No. Your public (i.e., free) version of Skype and your personal Skype account are not affected. Skype for Business is purely for your NWU work-related purposes, and you'll sign in to it using your NWU login credentials. If you already have the public version of Skype installed and you now start using Skype for Business, too, your desktop will display two Skype icons:

	The Skype icon is a blue cloud with a white S in the middle.
	The Skype for Business icon is a white cloud with a blue S in the middle.

 

How do I save my instant messaging chats?

• All your chats are automatically saved in the Outlook Conversation History folder.

Can I use Skype for Business at home?

 

• If you have the Skype for Business Client installed on your Pc/Laptop, you can use it at home if you are connected to the NWU VPN.

How do I Install Skype for Business?

• Skype for business is part of the Office 365 suite; if you were part of the users that was moved to outlook, your Skype for Business client would have been installed.

I use a MAC operating system can I use Skype for Business?

• Yes, Mac has a Skype for Business client that can be installed and integrates perfectly.

How do I call someone in Skype for Business?

•   You can call someone using the dial pad if it’s a number, or in the NWU, you can type the user's name and press call (see User Guide).

Can I forward my calls to my Cell phone?

•   Yes, you can forward your calls to your cell phone  (see User Guide).

Is voicemail part of Skype for Business?

• Yes, you have voicemail. You can see your voicemails in the Skype for Business client and you will receive a mail notification in Outlook.

Can I have Skype for Business on my Mobile phone?

•   Yes, there is a mobile client for Android and iPhone on the App stores.

Where do I get earphones for Skype for Business?

Can I do Video calls with Skype for Business?

•   Yes, you can, but you have to have a webcam or camera setup on pc to do video calling.

Can I call more than one person?

• Yes, you can add users to your call (see User Guide).

Can someone phone me while I am in Teams meeting?

•   No, your Skype for Business will set your status to unavailable when you are in a Teams meeting.

Can I change my Skype for Business Status?

 

• Yes, there are six options available (see User Guide).

Can I send a notification to someone via Skype for Business?

• Yes, you can send an IM to someone.

Can I see who is calling me?

• Yes, the Name of the caller will be displayed.

Can I make a group for frequent numbers I use daily?

• Yes, you can make a favourites group or department group numbers.

Can I set my working hours so that my Skype for Business calls will not ring after hours?

• Yes, you can state your working hours in Outlook Client  (see User Guide).

Can I transfer a call to some else?

• Click on Transfer. If you do not see this option, click on the grey phone icon and then click Transfer, select a contact, and Transfer.

Can I see my call history?

• Yes, on the Skype for Business client, you can see (All outgoing, All Missed, All received).

Can I pick up my colleague phone when ringing

• Yes, if you set up the Call Pickup group, “A Call Pickup Group allows users to answer a call that is ringing at another extension within that group.“

Can I change my ringtone?

•   Yes, in the Skype for Business client, you can change your ringtone under settings.

Can I set my status when I am away from my pc?

•   Yes, under settings, you can set the minutes when your status must change to away.

Can I see my Calendar entries in Skype for Business?

• Yes, you can see your Outlook calendar entries.

Why does my cell display someone else name for the NWU Number?

• If you are using the Truecaller app, this might be the case. Truecaller uses the user's address books to update its information, so if a specific name is saved for a phone number on a few users' address books, that name will be displayed for the particular phone number. NWU does not have any control over this information in Truecaller.

Change your voicemail greeting

• On the Phone tab, click the voicemail icon below the dial pad, and then click Change Greetings.
• Skype for Business calls your voicemail and guides you to record a personal greeting.
• When asked to press a number, pause on the phone/mic icon and click a number under the DIAL PAD tab.
