Academic Programme Planning

Academic Planning is a core function within Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) that constitutes an essential component of the North-West University’s core academic business.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides comprehensive assessment support to assist lecturers and faculties in designing, implementing, and reviewing high‑quality, fair, and academically sound assessment practices.

 

Work Integrated and Service Learning

The WISL system primarily automates, manages, and reports on the placement process for students participating in WIL and SL activities.

 

Programme and Module Development

The Programme and Module Development unit partners with academic staff to design and develop high-quality, future-ready teaching and learning experiences for students.

 

Multimedia Design

The use of multimedia, video, and graphics has become an integral part of the modern higher education system.

 

Teaching Awards

At North-West University academic members, as university teachers, are annually offered the opportunity to showcase their significant and extraordinary teaching contributions, by participating in the NWU Teaching Awards.

 

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The purpose of the SoTL funds is to provide academics and professional staff with an opportunity to research their own teaching-learning praxis in a scientific manner in order to improve teaching and learning, expand their research and deliver research outputs.

 

Teaching & Learning Conferences

CTL hosts the NWU Teaching and Learning (T&L) Conference (formerly Campus Seminar) annually. The NWU T&L Conference is a conference for general teaching and learning in higher education, and workshops and presentations are aimed at a multidisciplinary audience.

Evaluation of Teaching

Evaluation of Teaching (ET) - A developmental resource for reflective teaching and meaningful student learning. The evaluation of teaching is positioned as a developmental and reflective process that supports lecturers in enhancing their teaching practice and strengthening student learning experiences. 

 

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity at North-West University (NWU) is grounded in the values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. It underpins all teaching, learning, assessment, and research activities and ensures that academic work is original, ethical, and properly acknowledged.

 

Data Analytics

The Data Analytics focus area within Teaching Enhancement supports the strategic use of teaching and learning data to inform decision-making within the Directorate for Curriculum and Teaching Enhancement.

 

Induction Programme for Academics

The Induction Programme for Academics is an activity aimed at enhancing NWU academic staff as university teachers, as part of their academic professional development. The programme is compulsory for all new academics appointed to teach at NWU, those permanently appointed as well as part-time staff with a fixed-term contract (appointed for more than six months).
