A rapturous applause of welcome from the NWU Potch Arts office to every first year student of the NWU Potchefstroom Campus. Whether you’re an artist, actor, singer, dancer or an audience member, be assured that there IS a place for you in the arts on campus.
NWU Potch Arts; located in the Heimat Building F9 (undergoing renovations until May 2018), functions as a support service and forms an essential part of student activities on campus. Throughout the department’s 37 years, it’s seen numerous celebrities pass through its’ doors; including Karen Meiring, Johan van Rensburg, Katlego Maboe, Eugene Coetzer, Christian Diedericks, Bouwer Bosch and Piet Matipa.
Several productions are presented yearly; of which The King’s Singers (South African Tour), FAME – The Musical, NWU Pukki Talentfees and various productions at Aardklop 2017, form the highlights.
Part of the NWU Potch Arts family is the NWU Gallery and Artéma Institute for Arts Management and Development. In 2017 the NWU Gallery was invited to exhibit at the Joburg Artfair, and boasts with several their exhibitions and projects published. Artéma presents various short courses on the management, financing and marketing of arts. The recording studio (located in the Heimat Building) can be contacted for sound recordings.
Highlights in 2018:
- Mass Auditions for the Arts Societies including: NWU-Puk Choir, NWU-Puk Symphony Orchestra, Serenaders, Disfunctional Beat, Thalia Drama Society, Divaco and Gospella.
- World Choir Games, where the NWU-Puk Choir and Boulevard Harmonists will compete.
- The 35th NWU Pukki Talentfees.
- Several Visual Arts Exhibitions
- Short course on Theatre Technology, hosted by the Sanlam Auditorium – any student with a love for theatre is welcome attend.
