When graduating in absentia, you are required to pay an Absentia Fee of R320. 

The absentia fee is payable by all students who did not attend their graduation ceremony, as indicated in  the NWU Fees Payable and Financial Rules 2026. This official document was approved by the NWU Council and available online at https://services.nwu.ac.za/sites/services.nwu.ac.za/files/files/sffs/Fe… - Clause 4.3 (Graduation Ceremonies) - (p 20) confirms the fee for the Conferral of a degree or diploma in absentia to be R320.

Options to receive your certificate: 

1. You are able to collect your certificate only after your graduation ceremony has taken place. Kindly email the R320 absentia fee proof of payment before collection to your respective campus before collection.
2. Collection from a third party will only be possible with a permission letter. Kindly send the proof of payment for the R320 absentia fee along with a formal permission letter email with the third parties: Full name & Surname, ID number and Email address. Please also CC the person collecting in your email when sending it to your respective campus and inform the third party that they need to bring along their ID on the day of collection.
3. Your certificate can be couriered to your physical home or work address at an additional cost. This option does not allow third party permission. Kindly send your proof of payment for the R320 absentia fee and the additional courier fee proof of payment, along with the details below:
