Artificial Intelligence HUB

Why a NWU AI Hub?

The NWU AI Hub was established in the beginning of 2025 under the leadership of prof Anné Verhoef, the chair of the AI Steering Committee to:

  • strengthen the commitment of the NWU to embrace AI technologies that are responsible, beneficial, and aligned with our vision to bring positive change, and to continue to identify AI opportunities that are inclusive, ethical and sustainable;
  • coordinate AI activities, events, policies and guidelines, training, workshops and conferences at the NWU;
  • to fulfill IT’s mandate and plans as indicated in the NWU 2024 Integrated Annual Report, to focus on ensuring that we build technical capability to leverage opportunities brought about by AI.

The establishment of an AI Hub at North-West University, has been selected as a finalist in the Gartner 2025 Eye on Innovation Awards for Education in Higher Education for APAC (Asia-Pacific) and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa)!
