UCDG 2022: Call for Kerlick writing workshop retreats

Research Support, in collaboration with Kerlick Editorial & Research Solutions, will again be hosting the popular Research Publication Workshops/Retreats for staff members of the NWU during 2022.

Please find the following documents:

  • An Overview, which describes the Kerlick workshops available during 2022;
  • The 2022 Schedule with dates of all the workshops that are scheduled during 2021. We have planned three introductory Workshop A’s and five Workshop B article-writing retreats (Workshop B is normally attended only by participants who have previously attended a Workshop A);
  • Background details of the Kerlick Facilitators;
  • An Application Form: you may submit your application at any time if you would like to participate, as early as you wish. After receiving the application form, the workshop coordinator will send you further details, as well as a registration form for completion to confirm your intention to attend the workshop. (This application and confirmation process forms the basis for our planning.)
  • A Poster with relevant dates.

The introductory Workshop A’s will be conducted virtually, via Zoom. The Workshop B retreats will either be conducted via Zoom or face-to-face at campus venues, depending on the number of participants and the levels of interest on the different campuses. The venue for each Workshop B will be confirmed at a later stage. In the case of venue-based face-to-face retreats, you are welcome to attend on any campus where the workshop is presented – irrespective of where you are stationed. However, travel and accommodation expenses will be for your own account.

If you would like to attend any of the scheduled workshops, please send your completed application form to Boitumelo Mdluli at 34421025@nwu.ac.za.

The same process is followed for applying and confirming attendance at all the Kerlick 2022 article-writing workshops: you will need to return the application form and to confirm your intention to attend the workshop; thereafter, you will need to submit the applicable advance preparation (either for Workshop A or for Workshop B) on or before the deadline.

Invitation to register details in African Scientists Directory

With funding from the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) of South Africa, the International Science Council (ISC) Regional Office for Africa (ROA), in collaboration with the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), the African Academy of Science (AAS), the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and the World Academy of Sciences Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Partner (TWAS-SAREP) have developed an African Scientists Directory. This directory is generally envisaged to serve as a dynamic platform that contains information on African experts in the natural and social sciences, humanities, engineering and mathematics, residing within and outside the continent, which would make it easy to identify, engage and co-design as well as carry out research across disciplines, countries and regions of the continent and beyond.

In essence, it is an online database, hosted on the ASSAf server and self-operable using the link: http://africanscientists.africa/. Access is open to scientists from all categories with a doctorate or equivalent qualification.

With this background, we invite you to help us create a vibrant and well-connected African science community through registering your details in this directory to among others collaborate, build trust, increase impact and connect.

Please be advised that registration is free of charge and personal information such as your email address and phone number/s will not be displayed and shared with any third party. Initial contact between listed scientists will be done by means of an electronic form and the scientist is at liberty to accept or decline any opportunities sent to him/her.

You are welcome to reach out to Ms Bongiwe Zwane at bongiwe@assaf.org.za should you have any questions or require assistance in this regard.
