Vice-Chancellors of the NWU - Dr Theuns Eloff

FIRST VICE-CHANCELLOR

     DR THEUNS ELOFF

  • Dr Theuns Eloff is appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the NWU on 7 May 2004.

  • The NWU is the first of all the merging institutions to choose a permanent Vice-Chancellor.

  • The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and accounting officer responsible for the management and administration of the University.

  • During November 2008, the Council of the North-West University decides to re-appoint Dr Eloff for another five-year term as Vice-Chancellor, as his term expires during May 2009. The Council not only recognised the important role played by Dr Eloff to position the North-West University as a leading university, but also wanted to grant him the opportunity to finalise the various strategies implemented since the merger in 2004.

  • He completes his undergraduate studies in Law and Theology at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (Pu for CHE) and later a PhD (Theology) at the PU for CHE.

  • He is also a Pastor in the Reformed Church of South Africa.

  • An Honorary Doctorate of Law, is awarded to him by the London South Bank University, UK in 2008.

In his inauguration speech Dr Eloff says: "A merger is a journey, not an event".

 

Dr Eloff, describes the university as it celebrates its first ten years in 2014:

"From two very different universities at the end of 2003, we grew into the North-West University, one proud university, with three equally proud campuses, with a brand that is more and more recognised and a footprint and impact that is more and more respected."
