Important information regarding 2025 second-semester examinations and official examination rules

NWU rules for assessments and examinations

This serves as an important reminder that all students are required to adhere to the official rules for contact invigilated examinations. Failure to comply with these rules will be considered an examination irregularity and may result in severe consequences, including disciplinary action.
Students are required to familiarise themselves with the complete set of rules as outlined in the NWU Rules for Assessments and Examinations.

Second-semester examination 2025

Students will NOT be required to present their exam hall tickets at the examination venues, as there will be no scanning of exam hall tickets for the upcoming 2025 second-semester examinations.

However, students are strongly encouraged to download their exam hall tickets from the Student Portal and use them as a personalised examination timetable. The exam hall ticket provides essential information for each module scheduled on the timetable, including the specific examination venue to report to for an examination session.

It is the responsibility of every student to check the venue allocations indicated on their exam hall tickets.

What to expect at the examination venue

  • Students must arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the session.
  • Upon arrival at the examination venue, students are required to present their valid NWU student card to the invigilators at the entrance of each venue for identification.
  • The student card must be clear and legible, displaying the student’s photo, student number, initials and surname.
  • If a student card is not available, students must present their proof of registration, together with a smart ID card or driver’s licence. The issue date on the proof of registration must reflect the current date of the examination.
  • Students who do not have a valid student card or proof of registration that goes together with an ID card or a driver’s licence should obtain a replacement card from the Protection Services Offices at their respective campuses before the examination.
  • Students who cannot present any form of valid identification will not be permitted to enter the examination venue.
  • The possession or use of cell phones/smart watches/tablets/earphones or any devices relating to the latter in the examination venue is strictly prohibited. The handling of such devices during the examination session is not permitted.
  • Students are required to complete the tear-off attendance slip located at the back of each examination answer booklet and hand it to the invigilators for the official recording of attendance for every examination session.

Which modules will show on my exam hall ticket?

The exam hall ticket will display only those modules scheduled for the contact invigilated examinations as per the official examination timetable. Modules assessed through continuous assessment will not appear on your exam hall ticket.
