At North-West University (NWU), our ethic of care drives everything we do. Through bold action, shared responsibility, and deep community connection, we are building a future where environmental sustainability isn’t just a goal – it’s a lived reality.

Our campuses have made powerful strides:
- We’ve installed over 3,385 kWp of solar energy systems across campuses, drastically reducing our carbon footprint and saving millions in energy costs.
- Through our water-saving initiative, we’ve conserved over 4,461 kilolitres of water in student residences within just five months.
- We’ve recycled over 119 tons of waste – saving 467 trees and cutting greenhouse emissions by nearly 47 tons.
- Our biodiversity conservation work protects native wildlife, supports four wetland ecosystems, and upholds environmental ethics across all NWU campuses.
- From clean river drives to reusable bottle campaigns, we’re raising awareness, shifting behaviours, and empowering change-makers.

As part of Biodiversity Month, the NWU is proud to unveil its biodiversity information booklet, "From Soil to Sky: Get to Know Your Campus". This guide showcases the rich and diverse ecosystems thriving across our three campuses.
