Women's Month at the NWU Gallery

The NWU Gallery is partnering with the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the world’s only major museum solely dedicated to celebrating the creative contributions of women, for the acclaimed #5WomenArtists worldwide campaign. Throughout March, using the hashtag #5WomenArtists on social media, we challenge you to answer a question: “Can you name five women artists?” Many people can’t.

It’s a simple question with a not-so-simple answer. Women artists have not received their due from our institutional and educational systems. Our goal is to reinforce the numerous conversations we have sparked about gender parity in the arts.

The NWU Gallery is placing the spotlight on the women artists that have exhibited in its space, as well as on the works by female artists in the North-West University’s permanent art collection.

Join us on Wednesday, the 8th of March, from 13:00-14:00, for the Women’s Month exhibition opening, where we highlight some of the works in our collection.

Also follow NWU Gallery on social media for continued updates on the #5WomenArtists campaign.
